Dogs for Adoption in Maryland

Every dog listed below is currently available through our partnership with Lucky’s Legacy Rescue, based in Hagerstown, Maryland. Some came from overcrowded shelters, others were surrendered by families who could no longer care for them, but everyone has already been vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and given a full veterinary check before being listed here.

Our list updates regularly. Read each dog’s profile carefully, it’ll usually tell you their estimated age, size, and what their foster or rescue team has learned about their personality so far.

About Our Maryland Partnership

Finn’s Rescue Ranch started in Texas, and our own facility is still based on our ranch in Harper. Rather than run a second physical location across the country, we partner with Lucky’s Legacy Rescue, a fellow 501(c)(3) rescue based in Hagerstown, Maryland, to place dogs with adopters throughout the state.

The standard doesn’t change based on location. Every dog placed through this partnership is vetted, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered before adoption, the same as a dog adopted directly from our Texas ranch.

The Dogs You'll Find in Maryland

Maryland listings typically include a mix of breeds, ages, and sizes, from young puppies to seniors, small mixed breeds to larger dogs including Pit Bulls and Pit mixes. Maryland state law does not currently treat Pit Bulls as an inherently dangerous breed (more on that in the FAQ below), so you’ll often find them available here alongside every other breed.

Each profile below lists what’s known about the dog’s temperament: energy level, how they’ve done with kids or other pets, and anything they’re still adjusting to. If a profile is light on detail, it usually just means the dog hasn’t been in foster care long enough yet, reach out directly and Lucky’s Legacy’s team can tell you what they currently know.

Why Adopt Through This Partnership

Both organizations in this partnership are registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits, and both hold to the same standard before a dog is ever listed for adoption: a full veterinary exam, vaccinations, and spay or neuter surgery. Working with a Maryland-based partner also means you’re not coordinating a long-distance adoption or transport just to bring a dog home, your rescue contact is local.

If a placement isn’t working out after adoption, reach out to Lucky’s Legacy or to us directly. Responsible rescues want to know if something isn’t a fit, not have a dog rehomed informally without anyone knowing.

FAQ

How do I adopt a dog in Maryland through Finn's Rescue Ranch?

Find a dog you’re interested in on the list below and follow the adoption link on their profile. Applications for Maryland dogs are reviewed by our partner, Lucky’s Legacy Rescue, based in Hagerstown. Their team will reach out with next steps, typically a meet and greet followed by a home check, both of which can be done in person or over video call.

Not exactly. Our Texas location is our own ranch in Harper, where dogs live with us directly while they’re rehabilitated. In Maryland, we work through our partner, Lucky’s Legacy Rescue, to place dogs with local adopters. The vetting standard is the same either way, every dog is vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and health-checked before adoption.

Lucky’s Legacy Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) rescue based in Hagerstown, Maryland. [Confirm exact partnership details with client.] Working with a Maryland-based partner means dogs can be placed with local adopters without a cross-country transport for every single adoption, and Maryland families have a rescue contact close to home if they have questions after adopting.

Not under current state law. A 2012 Maryland court ruling briefly treated Pit Bulls as an ‘inherently dangerous’ breed with stricter liability rules, but the state legislature reversed that in 2014 through Courts & Judicial Proceedings Code Section 3-1901.2, and Pit Bulls are no longer singled out under Maryland law. That said, individual landlords, HOAs, or home insurance policies sometimes still restrict or upcharge for the breed regardless of what state law says, so if you rent, it’s worth checking your lease before applying.

Likely yes. A home check is typically part of Lucky’s Legacy’s adoption process, and it can be done in person or over FaceTime or Zoom. It’s a standard step, not a sign anything’s wrong with your application, it’s simply part of making sure the placement is a good fit for both you and the dog.

Yes. Every dog is vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and given a veterinary check before being listed for adoption, whether they’re placed through our Texas ranch or our Maryland partnership.

Adoption fees through rescue partnerships like ours typically cover the cost of vetting and, in some cases, transport to get the dog into the rescue’s care in the first place, so the fee tends to run a bit higher than a municipal shelter, generally in the $250 to $450 range industry-wide. Check each dog’s individual listing for their specific fee.

Foster options for Maryland dogs are managed directly through Lucky’s Legacy Rescue. Reach out to them, or to us, and we’ll point you in the right direction. Fostering is a solid option if you’re not ready to commit to adoption yet but still want to help.
