About / Our Mission
Finn’s Rescue Ranch started with one idea: no dog is a lost cause. We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and our whole job is giving dogs who’ve had a rough start the time, care, and training they need before they ever meet their new family.
Most of the dogs who come to us are from areas where shelters are full and resources are stretched thin. Once they’re with us, every dog gets a full veterinary check and any medical care they need. They also spend real time in a home environment with our foster families instead of sitting in a kennel all day, so by the time they’re ready for adoption, we actually know who they are: what makes them nervous, what makes them happy, and what kind of family they’d do best with. We place dogs with families in Texas and Maryland, and we’re not in a rush to move a dog along just to clear space. We’d rather take the extra week and get the match right.

Dogs in Texas
Our home base is the ranch itself, in Harper, Texas. This is where dogs land first, get checked out by a vet, and settle in with a foster family while they decompress and get ready for adoption. Most of the dogs on our site.
Dogs in Maryland
We also place dogs through our Maryland location, which makes the process easier for East Coast families who’d rather meet a dog closer to home instead of coordinating a long-distance adoption.
How Adoption Works
Fill out an application
Tell us about your home, your experience with dogs, and what you’re looking for. This is the first thing our team reads, so the more detail, the better.
Meet your match
We’ll set up a call or video chat so you can ask questions and get a real feel for the dog before anything is final. We’re happy to talk through more than one dog if you’re not sure yet.
Sign the adoption agreement
Once we both agree it’s a good fit, you’ll sign our adoption contract and take care of the adoption donation.
Bring them home
If your dog needs to be transported to you, we’ll coordinate the details together. Otherwise, it’s time to bring your new best friend home.

How do I adopt a dog from Finn's Rescue Ranch?
Start by filling out our adoption application online. Our team reviews it and reaches out to set up a call or video chat, so we can talk through what you’re looking for and answer any questions about the dog you’re interested in. If it looks like a good fit, we’ll finalize the adoption agreement and get your dog ready to come home, either through a scheduled transport or a local pickup, depending on where you’re located.
What areas does Finn's Rescue Ranch serve?
Our ranch is in Harper, Texas, and we also place dogs through our Maryland location. Most of our adopters are in Texas and Maryland, but we’ve placed dogs with families further away too. If you’re outside either state, reach out and we’ll let you know what transport options are available.
Are the dogs vaccinated and evaluated before adoption?
Yes. Every dog gets a veterinary exam before they’re listed for adoption, and any medical issues are addressed first. Dogs are also spayed or neutered and brought up to date on vaccinations. Because our dogs spend time with foster families instead of sitting in a kennel, we can also tell you honestly what a dog’s personality is like day to day, not just what’s on paper.
How much does it cost to adopt a dog from Finn's Rescue Ranch?
Adoption fees at rescues like ours typically run somewhere between $150 and $450, depending on the dog’s age and the medical care they needed before adoption. That fee goes straight back into caring for the next dog who comes through our doors, it doesn’t come close to covering our actual cost per dog, but it helps.
Can I foster a dog before deciding to adopt?
Yes, and if you’re not sure yet, we’d actually encourage it. Fostering gives you a real sense of what it’s like to have the dog in your home before you commit long-term. It’s also one of the most useful things you can do for dogs waiting on a permanent home, even if you’re not ready to adopt yourself.
Do you transport dogs to adopters outside Texas and Maryland?
In many cases, yes. [confirm current transport cost/policy] A lot of the dogs at our ranch come from areas where shelters are overcrowded and there simply aren’t enough local adopters, so transporting them to families in other states is often how we find them a permanent home. Transport gets arranged after your adoption is approved.
Is Finn's Rescue Ranch a legitimate nonprofit?
Yes. We’re a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations and adoption fees go directly toward the cost of caring for dogs at the ranch: vet bills, food, transport, and keeping the facility running.
What should I know before adopting a rescue dog?
Give your dog time. Rescue organizations and vets often point to a rough “3-3-3” pattern: the first 3 days are about decompressing in a new place, the first 3 weeks are when a routine starts to form, and by around 3 months most dogs feel genuinely settled. Some dogs move through that faster, some take longer, and that’s normal. Before you adopt, ask us about the dog’s history, how they’ve done around kids, other pets, or being left alone, and any behavioural quirks we’ve noticed. We’d rather you ask too many questions than too few.
